Known for its abundance of mountain bike trails, the Moab, Utah area is also a prime spot for hiking and river rafting. The public lands along the Colorado River just north of town are popular places for recreation. For example, the section of river along UT 128, located just over a mile from Motel 6 is a great place for rafters seeking a stretch with few rapids. UT 128 also features two breathtaking hiking trails, Fisher Towers, which boasts spires up to 900 feet tall, and Negro Bill Canyon, which ends at a natural bridge. Paralleling the other side of the river further downstream, UT 279 includes two other hikes, Portal Overlook and Corona/Bowtie Arch. Less than four miles south of the Corona Arch trailhead, you can see a set of petroglyphs and Jughandle Arch on the right side of the road. Lodging at Motel 6 will put you less than three miles from the turnoffs (from US 191) to these two scenic drives.
